A Potter of Note
You might wonder “what the bleep” - is a pottery rabbit doing at the entrance of the ‘Rabbit Hole’ on our ‘Quiz Box’ page as well as here. Well, he was made by Miranda’s friend John Newdigate, whom she met at St James beach when he was aged four, two bricks high, a large sun hat on his head, with a fishing rod tightly clutched in his hand
She has watched his creative process for a number of years now and loves what comes out of his kiln.
His pottery is not only beautiful to look at it is also functional. His work includes cups, mugs, bowls of varying sizes and usages, plates, tea-pots, butter-dishes, vases etc
Each piece is uniquely decorated using a wide-range of techniques, either singularly or in combination, such as carving, sgraffito, brush-work, burnishing, engraving, feather-work, finger-combing, fluting, inlaying, trailing, roulettes slip- work and glazing. His colours are gorgeous.
The result is a work of art that you can eat off, drink from, arrange and store in
Recently John was one of 4 potters who were asked to exhibit at the Irma Stern Museum.
We have just given you a taste of his talent but for feasting go to his website and see for yourself:
