Easy Does It

Dear Friends,

December and January have been filled with revelry for some, holiday for others, then back to the grindstone for most of us and everybody’s attention span may be scattered to the four winds - so we are slowly easing back into your awareness…

Loving Yourself: Feedback

In December Kim Kulenkampff completed her training with Change Matters by running a very successful one day workshop on “Self-Love”. This was a special occasion because for the first time clients who attend sessions in our practice room were able to see more of the house that Miranda shares with her friend Barbara. In a gesture of generosity Bar handed over her home for the day. Thanks Bar! The feedback that Miranda has received on Kim’s behalf has been very encouraging. Here are a few comments:

“I haven’t had such fun in a long time!”
“I felt safe and comfortable to share.”
“I learnt a lot and am now applying the concepts of Self-Love in my life. It works!”
“Thank you for the handouts; they were very a useful addition.”
“I loved not only the workshop but the food as well; please give me your recipe for Dhal Curry!”

The White Rabbit Chews On
In our last newsletter The White Rabbit was asked what she thought about the idea that one can be addicted to suffering. Initially the question that was raised had two parts. The first was about whether e-mailing is addictive and can it cause suffering. The second part asked, “Can we be addicted to suffering?” The “e-mailing” part of the question was answered in a very practical manner and readers were given a tool called the “Five Step Exercise”.

Now The White Rabbit burrows deep down to answer this second part of the question – “Are we addicted to suffering?” The question of suffering is a vast subject that has been tackled by many of our great thinkers, Buddha to name just one, who said in his 1st Noble Truth that “Life is suffering” back in 2500 A.D. Since then the notion of suffering has been approached from many perspectives. The White Rabbit’s answer is an analogy about a particular psychological perspective. In a sense, it metaphorically describes how suffering enters our world as children and how we as adults get trapped by suffering and become addicted to suffering. Read on

Our First Affiliate

Change Matters would like to welcome Kim Kulenkampff as our first Change Matters affiliate. Congratulations Kim!

Saturday Therapy Sessions

In our last newsletter we spoke about Change Matters’ unique approach of two therapists in the practice room with a client. Since Jana went on maternity leave Miranda has been flying solo in the practice room. Now that Kim has completed her training and become an affiliate, Change Matters would like to offer this service on Saturdays. Only 4 time-slots will be available for individual consultations. The cost of these sessions is R500 for 60 minutes. Please note that all payments are on a cash basis. If you would like to try this unique approach contact Miranda now on 021 788 5727 or email us at changemattersinfo@gmail.com. Bookings are on a “first come first served” basis. Please note that this service also has the added benefit of not having to rush away from work; your personal growth can be comfortably attended to in your own time.

One Day Workshops 2012

When Miranda first started practicing as a counsellor of applied psychology in January 2009 she began by offering one day workshops on personal growth under the banner of “Quest for Zest”. These workshops were psycho-educational. Drawing from her experience as an adult education practitioner and as an internationally qualified teacher of yoga, Miranda added her previous knowledge of experiential learning into the mix. These workshops were not only fun, but they helped those attending to grasp complex psychological constructs in a simple and digestible manner that aided the participants to begin a process of self-enquiry and self-discovery. It was at the first of these workshops that Miranda met Jana. When Miranda and Jana joined forces in October 2009 and Change Matters was born, these workshops seemed to fade into the periphery. Occasionally they would be offered but not on a regular basis.

Miranda has realised that clients who attend the practice room could increase their knowledge base and assist their process of self-enquiry and discovery if these workshops were presented at more regular intervals. Now that Kim has become an affiliate, Change Matters will be offering these workshops from April to September. The workshops will be conducted on a Sunday.

In our next newsletter we will provide you with the full programme and the dates when these workshops will occur. All readers and their friends, whether you are a current or past client, a person who would just like to expand their own quest for personal growth, or a student from the fields of psychology, social development and adult education are most welcome to join us!
