MY LEGACY
I ask myself what is my legacy?
I cannot know
What others deem important
That I leave behind
I have no property
No monuments of fame to my name
My deeds are various
My thoughts vicarious
My emotions precarious
They scatter behind
Only leaving a wisp of a trail
A hint of a tale
By the third generation whatever is left
Will all be forgotten
Except once in a while
My family will smile
As they come across
What was left in a box
The handed-down tattered recipe book will produce a good meal
An old photograph evoke a fond memory to savour and feel
A poem will be read and its words still ring true
A jersey passed down
The colours once dyed now faded
In shades of green, purple and blue
Will become the legacy of the life I once knew
